Extreme Diets That People Actually Follow

extreme diets

We keep hearing about a new diet promoted in the market to lose weight. How many actually work is a mystery, but some are too crazy even to try.

Here’s rounding up the most extreme diets of all time:

Cabbage Soup Diet

The idea behind this diet is only to consume low-calorie cabbage soup over seven days. Although soups are considered healthy, this diet is far from wholesome since it doesn’t contain many nutrients. Surviving on cabbage soup for a week can have many adverse side effects, such as abdominal pain and exhaustion, as suggested by the American Heart Association. Overall, it’s a terrible idea.

The Cotton Ball Diet

Believe it or not, this is a legit diet that people have tried. Instead of eating food, this natural fad diet involves eating cotton balls dipped in orange juice, smoothies, or lemonade. As crazy as this sounds, the purpose is to fill one’s stomach without gaining any calories or whatsoever. It is unsafe to consume cotton balls by themselves since they are chemical-induced. Moreover, it leads to severe health consequences such as obstruction of the gastrointestinal tract.

The Tapeworm Diet

Call it sheer desperation to lose weight or just plain madness; this diet is not for the weak-hearted. It comprises of eating- hold your breath, tapeworm eggs. The eggs are supposed to hatch in the gastrointestinal tract, where they consume the food. The dangers are many, as you are inviting infections in your body. Several reports have suggested potential death to the people who have experimented with this dangerous “diet.”

The Baby Food Diet

Yes, things are about to get even more whacky. Who said only babies could eat baby food? Just buy tons of Gerber jars (try different flavors at least), and instead of eating breakfast, lunch, or dinner, replace it with about 14 jars of baby food. This way, you don’t put on any weight and give your body whatever it needs. Let’s not even discuss the downsides.

The Master Cleanse Diet

Beyonce allegedly started the Master Cleanse Diet in 2006. This diet only allows you to drink a mix of lemon juice, maple syrup, cayenne pepper, and water concoction. Drink this mix about 6-12 times a day, and you will lose pounds. It is a horrible idea to deprive your body of core nutrients and food; drinking this terrible tasting mix will harm your body in the long run.
