A young, starry-eyed Ayaz Ahmed made his debut with the insanely popular show MTV Roadies and made the country fall in love with him. There has been no turning back for him since. His tremendous talent and perseverance won him a variety of roles in many TV shows ranging from a school student in Ishaan, to a gangster in Do Dil Ek Jaan, and even an queer character in Kaisi Yeh Yaariaan. Tujh Sang Preet Lagai Sajna, Meri Toh Lag Gayi… Naukri, I Luv My India, Parvarrish - Kuchh Khattee Kuchh Meethi, Ishq Kills, MTV Webbed, Santoshi Maa and Agniphera and some other shows he has worked in. Upon interviewing him we realized that aside from his obvious good looks and a great skill set, his affable and down-to-earth personality is what makes his fans stay in love with him. And the variety he brings to his roles lies deep within his thirst for creativity.

When we asked the obvious question of how the lockdown has been treating him, he chuckled and said, “At every step of your life you will have reasons to stop. This Pandemic has been a difficult phase for everyone. Initially I was just enjoying myself, watching content, trying to relax and take a break from my busy life. But then I realized that we can’t just wait for the pandemic to get over. I had to get back to my life. However, being an actor, I can’t be on set right now. So I kept myself busy in creating content, and doing things I’ve wanted to do for a long time but couldn’t- like writing scripts, poetry. I’ve shot a couple of short films at home on my phone.” If that doesn’t give you that motivation to put your free time to good use, we don’t know what will! When asked about his journey as an actor and how he would describe it he said, “It has been amazing, a joyride! I’ve learned something out of everything that has happened to me in the last 10 years, I’ve enjoyed every bit of it. The success and the failures, even the dull moments when nothing was happening for me- I’m glad for all of it. I’m a product of my past, and I’m happy with what I am right now.”

They say do what you love and you’ll never work a day in your life. This stands absolutely true in Ayaz’s case. When asked what inspired him to take up acting, he reminisced about his English teacher in school, a Mr. Samuel, who told his students that he did the job because he enjoyed doing it. This idea stuck with the young Ayaz. He analyzed what it is that he really enjoys and realized that he loved being on stage, participating in dramatics and dance competitions. “Always choose a profession you love, and you’ll be happy doing what you’re doing,” he said. Truer words have never been spoken.

Ayaz’s favourite actor growing up was Aamir Khan, and when asked to choose between Al Pacino and De Niro, he said “Marlon Brando!” Touché, Ayaz, touché. Something he said while discussing cinema stuck out to us, “Cinema is not just entertainment, cinema should move you. It should leave an impact on you.” That was enough to recognize a movie connoisseur. And the next question was as inevitable as gore in a Tarantino movie- “What’s your favourite movie of all time?” He answered, “It’s a tough one! I love so many movies, it’s really difficult for me to pick one.” Upon a little persuasion to narrow it down to top three, he picked ‘Taxi Driver’, a Spanish movie called ‘Amores perros’, and a French movie called ‘Love Me If You Dare’. And as a wonderful afterthought he added, “Then there’s obviously a lot of Korean movies! I love this movie ‘My Girl and I’ and ‘Bad Guy’…”

Fellow movie lovers, gear up, because Ayaz’s answer to the last question will have you super excited! When asked what his followers can expect to see on his Rizzle account, he said, “On the Rizzle app, I’m going to share one movie a day, it’s trivia and also tell them why they should watch it. The movies will be of all languages, from all over the world- commercial, art house, independent… those movies that really matter. Story-telling is an important part of our life and our evolution, so people should evolve and watch good content.” A piece from his treasure chest, just for his followers!
