20 Bollywood numbers that we can never get over!

Timeless hits that will win hearts for generations!

There is just something so peaceful about the nostalgia one feels while listening to the old, Bollywood music. The world which we are dragged to when the sweet, melodious voices of Kishore Kumar, Mohammad Rafi, and Lata Mangeshkar fill our ears is just heavenly. Right now, if we were to make a list of the top 10 Bollywood songs of 2021 it would be more or less a list of the best party songs or the best dance songs. But the song which these legends sang were just not just party or dance songs. These old Indian movies songs were a party in themselves with the lyrics carrying meaning, the presence of good music, and the amazing fusion of lyrics and rhythm. There were periods in Bollywood history when almost every song that came out was competing to be classics in their rights. There was the golden age defined by the melodious voices of Kishore Kumar, Lata Mangeshkar, and Mohammad Rafi. This era was not just defined by its magical songs but also by the answers the lyrics of these songs gave to the most pressing issues of life. There was the 90’s which was defined by the excellent fusion of rhythm and lyrics. And then there was the early 2000’s which gave us some of the most iconic love anthems and party numbers. And there is the present where Arijit Singh has made sure to grace us with his golden voice in almost every song.

So without further ado let’s have a look at the list of 20 such Bollywood numbers that we can never get over! The songs are in no particular order.

1. Iktara- Wake Up Sid

I just love this movie. This movie can be watched by me in any mood. I feel this movie is one of the best Ranbir Kapoor movies. And this song.. well, what a song this is. Kavita Seth has done such an amazing job with the connection she has with the lyrics of this song. Amit Trivedi’s music just makes this song even more perfect. So, please listen to this song if you haven’t because you are truly missing out on something.

2. Saajanji Ghar Aaye – Kuch Kuch Hota Hai

There is no denying that the early 2000s belonged to the movies starting with the letter K. And Kuch Kuch Hota Hai was one of such movies. With the cast of Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, and Kajol, this movie was bound to be a blockbuster. But another person that made this movie so great was Alka Yagnik and her melodious voice, which brought to life one of the most catchy tunes of the 2000s.

3. Tere Naina- My Name is Khan

Another song from a top Hindi movie that I feel doesn’t get the accolade it deserves. This song is one of the most beautiful things about this movie. Sung by Shafqat Amanat Ali, this song is one of the most beautiful songs out there. The lyrics of this song will forever be evergreen and Naino ki chaal hai, makhmali haal hai, Neechi palkon se badle sama, Naina sharmayein jo.

4. Ae Zindagi Gale Laga Le- Sadma

The lyrics of this song were written by no one other than the legendary Gulzar. Sung by Suresh Wadakar this song is another iconic song that has been remembered as a classic ever since it was sung back in 1983. The catchy beat along with the inspirational lyrics makes this a song for whenever you are feeling down.

5. Tera Deedar Hua- Jannat 2

What’s a Bollywood song list without an Emraan Hashmi song. You might have contrasting views about the movies, but the songs of these movies are just not forgettable. Sung by the musical genius, Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, this song is just a perfect blend of his voice with the subtle Qawaali tunes that have been fused together to give us this amazing musical piece.

6. Shayad- Love Aaj Kal

This song has been sung by the person who has dominated the Indian music industry for the past decade, Arijit Singh. This song serves us as a combination of a dream-like ecstasy with a dop of love. The lyrics of this song are so simple and the music by Pritam just makes this song even more beautiful. Though the movie was personally not liked by me, yet the chemistry between Sara Ali Khan and Kartik Aaryan makes the song even more enjoyable.

7. Bole Chudiyan – Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham

Another song from another iconic Hritik Roshan movie. The song is the go-to song for every sangeet and wedding in the country ever since it was released for the first time. The artist lineup for this song was just as impressive with Alka Yagnik, Sonu Nigam, and Udit Narayan giving their voice to bring this unforgettable Bollywood number to life.

8. Why This Kolaveri Di- Dhanush

A song that hardly requires any introduction. Sung by Dhanush this song is one of “the” songs for me. This song can be heard anytime, in any mood whatsoever. The lyrics of this song are just too good and I have them memorized by heart. The beat and the music are catchy and make you groove along. This is honestly “the” song there is.

9. Soorma Anthem- Soorma

This is the first song that I play when I start my workout. The energy you get from this song is just something else. You can almost feel the struggle that Sandeep Singh went through when making a comeback from the horrific incident. Sung by Shankar Mahadevan and with music from the trio of Shankar Ehsan Loy, this song is your go-to song whenever you feel you are done with your workout despite there being a few sets to go.

10. Zara Sa- Jannat

There is just something about the songs from Emraan Hashmi’s movies. Each and every song in the movie is better than the other and leaves an everlasting impression. Zara Sa is one of the most remembered ones. KK gave this song his glorious voice to various songs of Hashmi’s movies and this song is one of his most remembered songs. Where can I sign a petition to bring KK back to Bollywood?

11. Ishq Wala Love- Student of the Year

The movie gave the boys a new crush in Alia Bhatt and the girls two new crushes in Varun Dhawan and Siddharth Malhotra. This movie seemed almost like a Hindi remake of a Hollywood high school movie (which it was tbh!) but the songs in this movie were really one of the best albums of the year. Ishq Wala Love is sung by Neeti Mohan and is one such romantic song that you want to dedicate to that crush you have always wanted but out just too shy to approach.

12. Gal Mitthi Mitthi - Aisha

This song is one such song that just sticks around in your head for the whole day and you don’t seem to mind it at all. The video, the lyrics, and the music of this song just make this song one of the catchiest numbers around. This song was sung by Javed Akhtar with the evergreen Amit Trivedi providing the music. This is another Hindi party song that is just so colorful and vibrant with the goofiness of Abhay Deol and Sonam Kapoor adding to the vibe this song has.

13. Khabar Nahi- Dostana

Who can forget the infamous kiss from this movie between John Abraham and Abhishek Bachan. And the other memorable thing from this movie is the song Khabar Nahi. Shreya Ghosal has graced this song with her beautiful voice. The lyrics of this song are just as beautiful and make this song just so difficult to forget even after so many years.

14. Suraj Hua Maddham- Kabhi Kushie Kabhie Gham

It just feels so good to hear Sonu Nigam sing. It also feels so good to hear Alka Yagnik sing. The pair came together to deliver to us another gem in the romantic genre. The lyrics of this song are just too good. The music, just too good. The movie, just too good. The actors in the song, just too good. Yeah, I think you get my point. Everything, just too good.

15. Sapna Jahan- Brothers

It just feels so good to hear Sonu Nigam sing. (Sorry can’t help myself from repeating) There is so much happiness and joy in his voice that you are in for a melodious treat when you hear him sing. Add Neeti Mohan’s voice and you have a music fest for your ears. Sapna Jahan is one of the most underrated songs in the past few years personally for me. For a movie that was heavy with emotions this song just feels perfect for the movie. And this song the perfect fit when you are taking your evening walk.

16. Bolna-Kapoor and Sons

Personally, for me, this movie was one such movie that touched every emotion inside of me. Everything in this movie seems relatable and makes you go through a roller coaster of emotions. Bolna is another part of this movie that makes you feel sad as well as happy at the same time. Sung by Arijit Singh (who else did you think it was going to be) this is a song that you just want to keep on hearing on a loop.

17. Paathshaala- Rang De Basanti

Another movie made it very difficult for me to just choose one particular song. This movie is one of the top Hindi movies and always invokes a sense of patriotism. But this song in particular was one of the light parts of an otherwise intense and deep movie. Sung by the living legend A.R. Rahman this song is relatable to anyone who is just done with their school or even the school of life and just wants to lose control for some time.

18. Channa Mereya- Ae Dil Hai Mushkil

Acha chalta hoon, duao mein yaad rakhna. This song hardly needs any introduction. I am sure every one of you has had their heart broken listening to this song and relating to the pain that Ranbir Kapoor is going through. Sung by Arijit Singh, is a song that will forever be remembered as the song one turns to when their heart has been broken

19. Dil Bechara- Dil Bechara

This song has not been included for any sentimental purposes. It is a really beautiful song that has been brought to life by a man whose smile was the warmest and most infectious ever. It will be a shame to try and write what makes this song special as I am sure all of you know the reason. RIP Sushant Singh Rajput. You will forever be missed.

20-This slot is for the song that you feel should have made the list!

I feel it is completely unfair to have a list because the number of Bollywood songs I can never get over is just so many. And I am sure it is the same for you. So therefore the 20th song will be the one song you feel makes you just fall in love with life again and you want to hear when the going gets tough.
