In the multitude of TV shows available with just a few clicks away, we are exposed to a lot of amazing character who becomes a part of us in one way or the other. In movies, we see the characters for limited screen time and even though we develop an attachment they usually don't leave a lasting impression. But in TV shows we rely on our favorite characters and that's what gets us hooked to the storylines. TV shows with ample screen time allow us to delve into the development of the character's arc and make us love them eternally even after the TV show ends. This list of iconic characters was so difficult to pick, so here they are:
The argument of Seinfeld vs Friends as the best sitcom remains a debate among fans. Whether you are a Friends stan or a Seinfeld stan there is no argument in the fact that George Costanza played by legendary actor Jason Alexander is one of the most iconic characters ever. The character was based on Seinfeld's co-creator Larry David alter ego and he portrayed the neurotic character in the most brilliant way. George Costanza still has a huge fan base following who considers him as the funniest TV show character ever. Costanza line “Please, A Little Respect, For I Am Costanza, Lord Of The Idiots,” sums up his character perfectly and will be forever iconic.
“That's what I do. I drink, and I know things” Tyrion Lannister played by Peter Dinklage is still one of the most loved and iconic TV characters even though Game of Thrones ended poorly in 2019. His character development in Game of Thrones was explicable. From the first season when he slaps Joffrey to the last when he become the hand of the King he won hearts everywhere. With brilliant acting and execution, fans cried for Tyrion and some of the most brilliant quotes from the show were delivered by him. He is one of the few characters who survived and for Game of Thrones, that's a huge deal considering how everyone's dear Jon Snow died too (once).
The first time I watched The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air was the episode where Will's father leaves him again if you don't cry watching this episode you are officially emotionless. Will Smith plays more or less himself and he even chose his own name for the character. His character shot him to fame during the 1990s and he became a household name. The TV show was so famous during and is considered a classic TV show and it has a huge fan base even today.
One of the most annoying TV show characters is Sheldon Cooper, Bazinga! Jim Parsons plays the iconic Sheldon Cooper in the popular TV show The Big Bang Theory. Sheldon is a genius theoretical physicist but he lacks social interaction and he is very bad at reading people. In the show, Sheldon's friends always make fun of him saying that Sheldon is an alien because of his eccentric personality and this makes sense because Sheldon Cooper is really out of this world. Sheldon's character is so loved by fans that there is another TV show called Young Sheldon which is voiced by Jim Parsons himself.
The most famous antihero Dexter Morgan is portrayed by Michael C. Hall in the famous TV show Dexter. He is one of TV most lovable villain even though he is a psychopath and a murderer. His principles and code of "work" justify his wrongdoings, as he is a brilliant weapon of destruction. He fools everyone by living a double life both in reel and in real, he convinces everyone to love him even though he is a murderer at the end of the day. Perhaps this is why he said, "There are no secrets in life just hidden truth that lies beneath the surface."
